Daniel M. Goldberg is an associate in the Privacy & Data Security Group focusing on advertising, branded entertainment, interactive entertainment, technology, digital media & privacy, and intellectual property matters.
Mr. Goldberg represents multi-national and emerging companies in a wide range of privacy and data security-related matters involving the collection, use, storage, and monetization of confidential data. He works with in-house counsel, engineers, and business teams to assess data flows and develop policies and guidelines relating to the protection of personal data. He advises clients facing data security breaches and defends against allegations that they mishandled sensitive customer or employee data. Many of his matters involve bleeding-edge issues, including data ownership rights, international data transfer, user authentication, device graphs, data analytics, cloud computing, SaaS, mobile apps, and smart devices.
In addition, Mr. Goldberg handles digital media and advertising-related matters for brands, agencies, entertainment companies, and media companies. Mr. Goldberg regularly advises clients on issues such as consumer tracking and retargeting, e-mail and text message campaigns, children’s content, video content, user-generated content, rewards programs, influencer campaigns, and native advertising.
Prior to joining Frankfurt Kurnit, Mr. Goldberg was a privacy and data security associate at BakerHostetler, where he defended clients in privacy and data-security related class-action litigation and counseled clients in matters before the state Attorneys General. Mr. Goldberg also helped launch and advise a successful technology startup, which has given him an insider’s perspective on the technology sector and the importance of cost-efficient representation.
Mr. Goldberg serves in leadership positions in several professional organizations, and has published numerous articles on privacy and advertising related matters. He is certified as an information privacy professional (CIPP/US) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and is admitted to practice in California.
