California Agency Proposes Broad Privacy Rules
Privacy & Data Security Group Chair Daniel M. Goldberg was quoted in the article, “California Agency Proposes Broad Privacy Rules” published by MediaPost. The article discusses the new rules proposed by California’s privacy regulator that aim to extend residents' ability to control how their data is shared by prohibiting businesses from selling or sharing consumers’ information for purposes unrelated to its collection, without opt-in consent.
“The new proposed regulations, combined with an explanation released Friday, appear in some circumstances to impose obligations beyond simply honoring do-not-sell-or-share requests,” according to Daniel. He says, that broad approach “threatens many business models,” adding that he expects the industry "to push back significantly."
