The article discusses the recent lateral hiring frenzy and ways firms are trying to keep key partners from leaving. Tyler is quoted saying, “We always see these articles about lateral moves increasing, and I think a lot of this is that the firms are responding to that. It's not just single lawyers anymore; entire practice groups leave if you go somewhere else now." Some provisions are leaving departing partners adrift for months or longer with little to do. Tyler says, “Lengthy notice periods can be tantamount to noncompete agreements, which violate the American Bar Association's model rules and cannot be enforced.”
